How it's calculated

Zakat is 2.5% (one-fortieth) of your net zakatable wealth, once it reaches the nisab and you have held it for one full lunar (Hijri) year. Formula: zakat = (zakatable assets − debts due now) × 2.5%. Nisab is the minimum wealth on which zakat becomes due. This calculator uses the silver nisab of 612.36 grams (52.5 tola) of silver, which most scholars in Pakistan recommend because it is lower, so more people pay and more of the poor benefit. The gold nisab is 87.48 grams (7.5 tola) of gold. To use the silver nisab, enter today’s silver price per gram. For example, at Rs 250 per gram, the nisab is 612.36 × 250 = Rs 153,090. What to include: cash at home, bank balances, gold and silver (jewellery, coins or bars) at today’s value, business stock at its selling price, shares and investments, and money others owe you that you expect to get back. What not to include: the house you live in, your car, furniture, household items, clothes and the tools you use for work. Example: cash and bank balance Rs 500,000, gold worth Rs 550,000, business stock Rs 100,000, and debts due now Rs 50,000. Net zakatable wealth = 500,000 + 550,000 + 100,000 − 50,000 = Rs 1,100,000. This is above the nisab, so zakat due = 1,100,000 × 2.5% = Rs 27,500. Zakat deduction by banks in Pakistan: on the first day of Ramadan, banks deduct zakat automatically from savings and profit-and-loss sharing accounts at or above the government’s nisab. For Ramadan 2026, this was Rs 503,529. Current accounts are not included. If zakat is deducted from your account, you may count that amount towards the zakat you owe that year.

Nisab for zakat today

Zakat becomes due when your net wealth reaches the nisab. Most scholars in Pakistan advise using the silver nisab because it is lower and protects the right of the poor.

What counts as zakatable wealth

Include

  • Cash in hand and in bank accounts
  • Gold and silver, including jewellery (valued by weight and karat)
  • Business stock and goods kept for sale
  • Shares, mutual funds, prize bonds and savings certificates
  • Money lent to others that you expect back

Do not include

  • The house you live in and your personal car
  • Household items, clothes and tools of your work
  • Debts and bills you must pay now (deduct them)
  • Wealth you have held for less than one lunar year

How the calculation works

  1. Add everything zakatable: cash, gold, silver, stock, investments and money owed to you.
  2. Subtract debts and bills you must pay now. The rest is your net wealth.
  3. If net wealth is at least the nisab, and a lunar year has passed, pay 2.5% of it as zakat.

Example: net wealth Rs 1,655,042 × 2.5% = Rs 41,376.

Frequently asked questions

How is zakat calculated?

Add up your zakatable assets, subtract debts due now, and if the total is at or above the nisab, pay 2.5% of it. For example, on Rs 1,100,000, zakat is Rs 27,500.

What is the nisab for zakat?

The silver nisab is 612.36 grams (52.5 tola) of silver, and the gold nisab is 87.48 grams (7.5 tola) of gold. Its rupee value changes with the market price, so enter today’s silver rate in the calculator.

Is this calculator free and private?

Yes. It is free to use and needs no sign-up. All calculations run in your browser, so the numbers you enter are not sent to our server.

Why does this calculator use the silver nisab?

Many scholars in Pakistan recommend the silver nisab when your wealth is a mix of cash, gold and other assets. It is lower than the gold nisab, so it is the safer choice and benefits more people in need.

Is zakat due on gold jewellery I wear?

In the Hanafi school, followed by most people in Pakistan, zakat is due on gold and silver jewellery, even if you wear it. Other schools differ on jewellery for personal use, so ask a scholar if you follow another school.

How much zakat is due on 1 tola of gold?

Zakat is 2.5% of the gold’s value. Multiply the price of 1 tola by 0.025. For example, if 1 tola is worth Rs 400,000, zakat is Rs 10,000. Only gold isn’t enough on its own unless you have at least 7.5 tola, but combined with cash or silver it usually crosses the silver nisab.

When do banks deduct zakat in Pakistan?

Banks deduct zakat on the first day of Ramadan from savings and profit-and-loss sharing accounts with a balance at or above the government’s nisab. For Ramadan 2026 the nisab was Rs 503,529. Current accounts are not included.

How can I stop zakat deduction from my bank account?

Submit a zakat exemption declaration (form CZ-50) to your bank before Ramadan. People who follow a school of thought that does not allow compulsory deduction, and people who are not liable to pay zakat, can apply. Ask your bank for the exact process and deadline.

Is zakat due on my house, car or salary?

No zakat is due on the house you live in, your car or household items. Your salary is not zakatable when you receive it, but any savings from it are counted with your other wealth on your zakat date.
